Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Short version. You sign in with Steam; we get your public SteamID, name and avatar, never your password. Demos you upload are stored on our server and analyzed there, visible only to your team. Raw demo files are deleted within days; the analyzed data is kept while your plan allows (7 days on the free plan, while you subscribe on paid plans).
If you use the AI match chat (paid plans), the analysis of that match is sent to Anthropic to write the answer. The desktop app keeps everything on your computer and only checks your subscription with us. We don't sell data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics cookies.
Who we are
RetakeHQ is an independent software project run from West Virginia, USA. "We", "us" and "our" mean the developer of RetakeHQ. Contact: hello@retakehq.com.
RetakeHQ comes in two forms: the web app (you use it in your browser; your team's data is stored on our server) and the desktop app (for paid plans, coming later; your data is stored on your own computer). This policy covers both, plus this website.
1. Your account (Steam sign-in)
You sign in on Steam's own website. Steam tells us your SteamID (a public number identifying your Steam account). We then look up your public Steam profile name and avatar to show them in the app. We never see or store your Steam password.
We also keep the public Steam name and avatar of other players in matches you open, to show them next to their stats.
We keep: your SteamID, name and avatar, when you joined and last signed in, your team and role, and your active sign-ins (each with the date and a device description such as "Firefox on Windows" so you can sign out other devices; we don't log your IP address against your account).
Once your team has a few matches, the match page asks you to rate RetakeHQ. If you do, we keep the stars, what you wrote and whether we may quote it; a quote never carries your name. It's deleted with your account.
2. Demos you upload (web app)
A demo is a recording of a Counter-Strike match. When your team uploads one, we store the file and analyze it: rounds, positions, kills, damage, grenades, economy and so on. Demos contain the in-game names and SteamIDs of everyone in the match, including opponents; that information is part of the analyzed data.
- Who sees it: your uploads, their analysis, and your team's notes, comments and drawings are visible only to members of your team (and to us, to run and support the service). Professional matches we add ourselves are visible to everyone. Features that compare matches (scouting, stacked rounds, round search and "rounds like this one") only draw on those professional matches and your own team's uploads, never on another team's.
- How long we keep it:
What How long The raw demo file Deleted 3 days after it's analyzed (7 days if analysis failed, so it can be retried) Analyzed data, free plan Deleted 7 days after upload Analyzed data, paid plans Kept while your team subscribes After a paid subscription ends Kept, read-only, for 90 days; after that the free plan's rule applies Notes, comments, drawings Deleted with the match they belong to, or when you delete them - Used, anonymized, to improve RetakeHQ (unless your team turns on private mode): we keep a copy of the match data parsed from your uploads (positions, kills, damage, grenades, economy, round results) with every player name, SteamID and team name replaced by a random code, and without the demo file, your notes, comments, drawings or AI chats. The same goes for everyone else in your matches, including players who don't use RetakeHQ. With it we keep the match's overall skill level as a band (for example "Gold Nova", from the ranks the demo records), never any player's own rank; where the match was played (matchmaking or other); and the kind of match you said it was. If someone on a team marks part of the analysis 👍 or 👎, the copy keeps that vote and, for a sentence, its text with every player and team name replaced; never the reason typed, and the voter only as a code that differs per match, not your name or SteamID. We read these to find sentences the analysis gets wrong in more than one match, and fix them. Matches played on FACEIT are not copied at all. We use these copies only inside RetakeHQ, to train and check our models -- for example to make win chances more accurate for matches like yours, and to compare a player with others at a similar level. They are never shown to another team, published, sold, or used to rebuild a particular match for anyone.
- Comparisons with pros stay pro-only: every "pros on this map do X" number is learned only from the professional matches we add ourselves; uploads never become part of it.
- How long the training copy is kept: up to 24 months from upload, even after your team's own copy of the match is deleted. Because it carries no names or IDs, we can't link it back to you or your team. A model already trained keeps what it learned in general, but not your matches.
- We never publish or sell your demos, your team's data, or anything that identifies you or your team.
2b. What your team can add or link
- Voice comms (Team and Org plans): your team can add its own recording of a match. The uploader confirms everyone on it knows. It's played next to the replay for your team only, stored under a random name, never used to train anything, and deleted with the match or your team.
- Team logo: a picture your team owner uploads, redrawn as a small image and kept with your team. For an opponent linked by their FACEIT page we show FACEIT's team picture, fetched when shown, not kept.
- Matchmaking import (paid plans): if you link your Steam match history, we keep your SteamID, the match-history authentication code you gave us and the latest match share code. Every hour a separate Steam account we run asks Valve for your new Premier, Competitive and Wingman matches, and we download and analyze them like uploads. Unlink it on your account page and the code is deleted; matches already imported stay with your team, like uploads.
- FACEIT (the web app, using FACEIT's official API): from your SteamID we look up your FACEIT account and your recent matches, to list them on the Demos page; your team's next ESEA league match and the opponent's recent league matches; an opponent's maps from their FACEIT team page; and a player's FACEIT nickname when you search for one. We keep your FACEIT account id and nickname (refreshed daily, deleted with your account), and which of your demos is which FACEIT match, kept with your team's data. The match details from FACEIT are kept at most 30 days, FACEIT's own window; the opponent's FACEIT team you link is saved so it's there next time. Anything else FACEIT returns is used to answer you and not kept.
3. AI chat
On paid plans, RetakeHQ can answer questions about a match, about an opponent's scouting report or about Counter-Strike in general ("Ask the coach"), and read a round search our own rules can't. To do that we send the analysis involved (for a match: player names, rounds, kills, positions, stats and the patterns we found; for an opponent: the scouting report you're looking at; for a general question: your question and what the professional matches show; for a search: its words and the team names in those matches; never a raw demo file) to Anthropic, whose Claude models write the text. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on this data; see Anthropic's privacy policy.
Questions and answers are saved with your team: the question, the answer, who on the team asked it, and a note if you mark an answer as wrong. We read answers marked wrong, and a sample of others, to find and fix mistakes in how RetakeHQ answers; never to train a model. They're deleted with the match they're about, when your team is deleted, and your name comes off them if you leave the team or delete your account.
If you'd rather not have a match sent to Anthropic, simply don't use the chat; nothing is sent automatically.
4. The desktop app
The desktop app analyses demos on your own computer. Your demos, analysis, notes and settings are stored there; we never receive them. The app connects to us only to check that your subscription is active: it signs in to your RetakeHQ account and sends a token for this computer and its name (so you can see which computers use your account). It keeps working offline for up to 7 days between checks. If you set up FACEIT import, the app talks directly to FACEIT for your match history and demos, under FACEIT's privacy policy.
5. Payments
Subscriptions are sold through Stripe (Stripe, Inc. and its affiliates), the merchant of record: it takes your payment, works out and pays any sales tax or VAT, and sends receipts. Checkout and the page where you manage your subscription are Stripe's own pages. Stripe collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details, and shares with us your name, email address, country and subscription details so we can apply your plan, keep tax records and help you. We never see your full card number. See Stripe's privacy policy.
6. Cookies
The web app uses only cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in, and a short-lived one that remembers where to send you after signing in (for example, a team invite link). No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. This website (retakehq.com's information pages) uses no cookies.
Page counts. To see how many people visit and which pages they use, the web app counts page views with Umami, running on our own server (no cookies, nothing sent to another company). Each count records the page's address without anything after a "?" or "#", the site that linked to it, the browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and the country worked out from your IP address. Your IP address isn't stored. If your browser sends "Do Not Track", nothing is counted. Invite and shared links are never counted. Totals, never individual visits, may be shown on a public stats page.
7. Where data is stored and who helps us
- Contabo GmbH runs the server that stores the web app's data, in Germany.
- Anthropic writes chat answers (section 3).
- Stripe (Stripe, Inc.) processes payments (section 5).
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) receives error reports when the web app breaks, stored in the EU: the error, where in our code it happened, the page's address without anything after a "?" or "#", and your browser and operating system. No account, cookies or anything you typed, and your IP address isn't stored; invite and shared links send none. See Sentry's privacy policy.
- Steam (Valve) handles sign-in, provides public profile names and avatars, and supplies matchmaking demos for the import (section 2b).
- FACEIT answers the FACEIT lookups in section 2b, under FACEIT's privacy policy.
- Pictures from Steam and FACEIT: player avatars and opponents' FACEIT logos load in your browser straight from Steam's and FACEIT's image servers, which receive your IP address and browser details when they do.
- Leetify: when you open a player's card, we look up that player's public Leetify profile by their SteamID (a public number) to show their Leetify ratings. Leetify only returns profiles its players have left public (leetify.com).
- Cloudflare keeps off-site backup copies of the web app's database, so a lost server doesn't lose your data; old copies are deleted automatically.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces on this website; like any host it receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page.
We use them only to provide RetakeHQ. We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it except with these providers or when the law requires it. If you're outside the US, your data may be processed in the US or the other countries these providers operate in.
8. Security
Traffic to the web app is encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in tokens are stored only as secure hashes, demo files are stored under random-looking names, and each team's data is kept separate. We back the database up regularly. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever learn of a breach affecting your data, we'll tell you.
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete your notes, comments and uploads' analysis from your team at any time.
- Delete your account yourself on your account page. That removes your profile, sign-ins, linked computers and any AI reviews of your play written before they were retired; if you're the only member of your team, it also removes the team's uploads and notes, otherwise the team keeps them. (A team with an active subscription must cancel it first.)
- Ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or to correct it, at hello@retakehq.com.
- Private mode: a team owner can turn it on in the account page. From then on, the team's uploads are never copied for training, and the training copies already made from the team's uploads are deleted before our next training run.
- If you appear in a demo someone else uploaded and want your data removed from our analysis, email us and we'll take care of it.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have further rights; we'll honor requests made under those laws.
10. Children
RetakeHQ isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top; for significant changes we'll also let signed-in users and subscribers know before they take effect.
